Pomona residents Freddy Maga, 20, and Eddie Navarro, 19, were arrested on suspicion of delaying and obstructing an officer, West Covina police Lt. Pete Mena said. Both are suspected West Covina gang members.

Authorities believe Maga a and Navarro were fighting with students from the West Covina Unified School District's Regional Occupational Program at Del Norte Park about 9:30a.m. when an ROP employee saw them and called police.

A student told police one of the suspects had a gun in his waistband, Mena said.

The two suspects fled the park and officers saw the men run through Monte Vista Elementary School, Mena said.

"They ran through the school, went over a fence, crossed Puente Avenue and started jumping fences," he said.

Police set up a containment area near Puente Avenue and Orange Street, and eventually found Maga a hiding under a car in the driveway of a home in the 700 block of North Conlon Avenue, Mena said.

After attempting to run from officers, police deployed their K-9, which bit Maga a in the right arm.

Navarro was apprehended later in the 1600 block of West Alisal Street. The police dog found him hiding inside of a garage attic, Mena said.

Mena said other than Maga - who was treated at a local hospital for his injuries - no one else was hurt.

A weapon was never recovered.

Monte Vista Elementary was on lockdown for nearly two hours while police looked for the suspects
